I am an atheist/anti-theist, but I am also kind and have been vegan for a year and a half. The responses I get over and over from people are, &quot;They&#39;re here for our use,&quot; and &quot;God gave us the animals - we are the chosen ones&quot; as total excuses to not care about animals. I can&#39;t believe they don&#39;t care about suffering! Animals have brains, spinal chords and nervous systems (plants don&#39;t) and yet I actually hear over and over a comparison with eating plants to eating animals! Who do they think they are kidding?! Sheez. Although I know not all morals in life come from the bible, I felt people were cherry-picking the &quot;dominion over animals&quot; passage, and ignoring many others. You have shown that, yes, they are ignoring passages. By the way, I will let you know that vegans seem to be hated worse than atheists! It&#39;s a lifestyle that is filled with cruelty-free decisions... not allowing animals to suffer lonely lives in farms, or horrible deaths in slaughterhouses or fur farms, or to be tested on, for my sake. The way I look at it is that when you read Genesis 1:29, you see that right after God finished His creation, He instructed man that plants were to be his food. It wasn&#39;t until after sin entered the world that God permitted the use of animals for food. <br /><br />In today&#39;s time, we have so many alternatives to animal products that using animals for food is no longer necessary. Same with leather and fur. Back in Bible times, they didn&#39;t have Gardenburgers, soy ice cream pleather or faux fur. Now we have all of these products readily available to us, and so to me, I would rather eat or wear something that I know an animal didn&#39;t have to suffer to give me. To me, it&#39;s just a basic question of necessity, and animal products aren&#39;t necessary anymore. <br /><br />I have felt very fulfilled since going vegan, knowing that my choices in what I buy, eat, wear and use no longer cause any suffering. As for the food part, I have never felt healthier! The human body was not designed to metabolize animal products efficiently.
